Drive past Central Green Park on a Friday at dusk this month and you will see the same thing you saw last July: folding chairs, coolers, and a tribute band warming up. What is different in 2026 is what surrounds that lawn. A 300-seat Italian restaurant is finishing its build-out three hundred feet away. A new taco patio just opened on South Mason. A 165-acre retail district is stringing up its first grand-opening banners for September. The Friday-night lawn is still the anchor, but the map around it is redrawing itself in real time.
This is a summer worth planning around, not just showing up to. Here is the shape of it.
If you only track one calendar in Katy between now and Labor Day, make it the one at Central Green Park in LaCenterra. The programming is dense, the parking is free, and the acts are more curated than a suburban lawn series usually gets.
The Friday concert rotation for the rest of the season:
Layered underneath the concerts, the park is running Friday Yoga on the Green and Saturday Tai Chi on the Green as standing weekly classes, plus a Sunday farmers market at LaCenterra that runs through the concert months. If you live in Cinco Ranch, Seven Meadows, or the newer sections west of the Grand Parkway, this is the closest thing Katy has to a walkable town square program.
One thing to slot in if you have runners in the family: the Fleet Feet Katy Running Club meets at LaCenterra for a group run every Tuesday. Same parking lot, different night.
The city's summer play for younger kids is easy to overlook because it moves. Frosty Fridays runs every Friday in July with free frozen treats and activities at parks throughout the City of Katy, and the four rotating locations are VFW Park, Woodland Park, Katy Dog Park, and Katy City Park.
Each week gets its own theme. The morning slot runs 10:00 to 11:30 AM, and past weeks have included drone demonstrations, interactive sports games, and a hands-on archery demo. The July 10 stop at VFW Park paired the frozen treats with a drone demo.
The reason it is worth tracking week by week: the four parks pull from different sides of the city. A Frosty Friday at Katy Dog Park draws a different crowd than one at Woodland Park, and the small city parks tend to feel quieter than anything in a master-planned community amenity center in July.
Two events bracket the end of summer and are worth blocking off now.
Back to School Bash on Saturday, August 1 at Central Green Park lands the weekend after the final Central Green concert. It sits inside the same lawn program families have been using all summer, so the muscle memory is already there.
End of Summer Send-Off on Friday, August 7 at Woodsland Community Park is the softer close. It is the last community-wide summer event before the season shuts down, built around families, kids, and evening activity.
If you are entertaining out-of-town family in the first week of August, those two dates plus a Frosty Friday give you a low-effort itinerary that costs nothing.
The Peach Truck Tour 2026 stops at Katy Mills Mall on Thursday, July 9 and Sunday, August 2. Two pickups, four weeks apart. If you froze peaches from the first run and are watching them dwindle, the August date is the restock.

Here is where the map is actually moving.
The most-watched arrival is at LaCenterra. North Italia is opening a new location in Katy in June 2026 with a nearly 9,000-square-foot space that seats up to 300 guests. The design is not a copy-paste of the brand's other stores. It will feature artwork by Texas mural artist Kyle Wadsworth, and the restaurant's design is inspired by Katy's historic oak trees, combining Texas influences with Italian themes. The kitchen will be led by regional chef Shawney Severns and executive chef Jairo Gonzalez. For anyone who has spent a Friday concert circling for a post-show dinner spot at LaCenterra, this is going to change the traffic pattern on that block.
Down the road on South Mason, the newer opening to plan around is already serving. Fuzzy's Tacos and Margs opened its newest Katy location on December 22, 2025 at 233 S. Mason Road. Seven months in, the patio still counts as new inventory for anyone who has been rotating the same short list of Mason Road tables.
The biggest structural change is a few miles north. Lowe's at Texas Heritage Marketplace has its Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting on September 4, 2026. That is the first visible tenant date at a project that has been abstract to most residents until now. Texas Heritage Marketplace is a 165-acre mixed-use development near Interstate 10 and Texas Heritage Parkway, anchored by a Target Supercenter, with restaurants, retail stores, medical offices, and additional service-based businesses. Tenant openings are anticipated to roll out throughout 2026. For homeowners on the west and north edges of Katy, Labor Day weekend is when the drive to a big-box hardware run gets meaningfully shorter.

None of it requires a ticket. Most of it is within a ten-minute drive of anywhere inside the Katy ISD footprint. And the crowd is different at every stop, which is the part you cannot get from a mall or a chain restaurant patio.
The Central Green summer program winds down after August. What comes next is a much bigger civic calendar. The Boots & Brews kickoff to the Katy Rice Harvest Festival is on Saturday, September 12, 2026 from 7 to 10 PM at Historic Town Square, with live music, dancing, food, drinks, a mechanical bull, and photobooths, and the full Rice Harvest Festival runs October 10 to 11, 2026 at the Historic Town Square in front of Katy City Hall.
If you have never been, the short version is this: it is the one weekend a year where Old Katy on the north side of I-10 feels louder than LaCenterra on the south side. Worth the flip.
